Svalbard

ARK project

The ARK project was founded to study the Arctic marine mammals in Kongsfjorden in a context of climate change. One of the main focus for the 2021 campaign was to equip with dive-recording GPS individuals from the three species of resident seals in the area: ringed, bearded seals (Arctic residents) and the harbour seal (a more temperate species) to understand the spatial use and potential overlap as the habitat for the Arctic species is shrinking fast.
